The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has presented a significant new transport project that will reduce traffic jams in some of the busiest areas of the city. The new taxi-sharing pilot programme will provide a cheap and shared travel to various destinations (popular) in Dubai between Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Al Maktoum International Airport.

What Is the New Taxi-Sharing Service?

In the service, passengers can share a single taxi, and the prices are highly discounted particularly during peak events or when there are rush events in the airport. The programme will offer cost reduction and easier mobility to the residents, commuters and visitors.

  • Shared Taxi Routes from DWTC
  • Business Bay Metro Station
  • Al Satwa Bus Station
  • Dubai Marina Mall
  • Shared Taxi Routes from Al Maktoum International Airport
  • Dubai Marina Mall
  • Business Bay Metro Station
  • Palm Jumeirah – Atlantis Monorail Station

The service will be on a 6 months trial period with expansion of the successful Dubai-Abu Dhabi shared taxi scheme implemented last year.

Long-Distance Taxi Pooling Already Showing Huge Growth

By RTA, the shared taxi service between Ibn Battuta Mall in Dubai and Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi have witnessed a remarkable growth of 228 percent of the number of people who use the services since its introduction. This good performance promoted the growth to new high-demand destinations.

Why RTA Is Expanding Taxi Pooling in Dubai

According to Adel Shakri, Director of Planning and Business Development at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, the new routes follow detailed field studies and route analysis.

Core Goals of the Initiative

Reduce traffic congestion in event-heavy and airport areas

Lower fare costs for frequent commuters and tourists

Support sustainable, eco-friendly travel by reducing emissions

Improve accessibility to metro links, business districts, and major attractions

Shakri highlighted that the rising demand for shared mobility options was a key reason behind expanding the service.

How This Benefits Passengers

Passengers travelling from airports, exhibition centres, or business hubs will enjoy:

Cheaper fares due to shared costs

Reliable access to major metro stations and transport hubs

Less road congestion during big events

Greener transportation throughout the city.

This project will help cut down congestion in the roads surrounding DWTC and increase the level of convenience when travelling in Dubai as the city continues to expand as a business and tourism destination worldwide.
